A brand new coffee shop which also doubles up as a teaching space for Barista training, has officially opened at North West Regional College (NWRC).
Barista @ The Clipper, based at the College’s Northland Building is a speciality coffee shop, complementing NWRC’s state of the art eating establishments which include the Flying Clipper Brasserie, the Tower Building Canteen, and fine dining Flying Clipper Restaurant.
The new coffee shop was officially opened this week by general manager of Primrose restaurant Shelley McLaughlin who recently completed her Level 2 City and Guilds in Barista Skills at the college.
Kathleen McCaul, Head of Department for Hospitality and Catering at NWRC, said this was another exciting chapter in the college’s development.
“Staff from our Department for Hospitality and Catering are delighted to see the official opening of the new coffee shop, which will also provide expert training in Barista coffee making.
“With our City and Guilds Level 2 NWRC is now an expert training centre in creating handcrafted beverages, understanding coffee and perfecting the techniques required by a modern Barista.
“Barista @ The Clipper is now open offering a wide range of hot and cold drinks, snacks, pastries and sandwiches. It is fully open to the public and we welcome guests into the college to try it out for themselves.”
Julie Faherty of JJ Darboven Coffee Suppliers who attended the launch said: “It is a huge privilege to be here for this opening, and to meet the new Baristas who have benefited from the training.
“Congratulations to all involved in the opening of the new establishment.”
Shelley McLaughlin of Primrose Restaurant who has completed the Level 2 also added her congratulations to those involved with the opening of restaurant.
She commented: “As coffee is one of our major selling points at Primrose, Barista Training is essential. It’s fantastic to have received this training locally knowing that I can now pass on my skills to the staff at Primrose.”
Barista @ The Clipper is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
