Staff Development Training


Staff have attended a range of development training sessions this week.  Pictured:

Top chefs select NWRC trainees

Hospitality & Catering launched an innovative new approach to securing placements for students this term.  A 'speed interview/selection' session was held for leading industry representatives in the Flying Clipper, and each student was required to pitch why they should be selected, in just two minutes.  The top chefs then selected who they felt would best fit with their team for the year long placement.

WorldSkillsUK Cluster Training at NWRC Greystone

This week the Greystone Centre is hosting a WorldSkills Cluster training event in Wall & Floor Tiling, Electrical Installation, Plumbing and Network security. The students, from all across the UK, are members of the WorldSkillsUK Squad preparing for Brazil 2015.  This follows the successful tiling training exhibition at the Richmond Centre. College brings WorldSkills to Richmond Centre

It takes great concentration & commitment to be able to compete at WorldSkills. Limavady student Martin is taking part in a two day training exercise at the Richmond Centre today and tomorrow to help him prepare for the noise and distractions that come with the thousands of visitors who will be at the competition in Brazil next year. Visit the centre to see his intricate wall & floor tiling in action!

Nuffield Research Placement success

Six students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT completed a 4 - 6 week placement this summer, thanks to bursaries from the Nuffield and Sentinus Research Placement schemes.  The students were presented with certificates and their hard work was recognised at a special event in Queens University recently.  Click here to read more.

Employers Breakfast Event

Representatives from 13 diffferent local businesses attended a special Networking Breakfast event this morning which focussed on the benefits that NWRC Foundation Degree programmes, students and graduates can offer local enterprise.  Held in our Flying Clipper Brasserie, and in association with Londonderry Chamber of Commerce and the Department for Employment & Learning, the event featured contributions from the Chamber, DEL, and Derry City Council.  Well done to everyone involved in organising this event.

NWRC Supports Palliative Care Week

NWRC students and staff came together last week to join representatives from the Western Health & Social Care trust to show their support for Palliative Care Week. An information exhibition was available to help the students and staff promote the awareness of palliative care issues.

Learner Services Annual Charity Fundraising

Very well done to all of the staff from our Learner Services section who collectively raised £361 for the Alzheimers Society during 2013-14, following a series of fundraising initiatives which were co-ordinated by the team from Network Services.

Staff raise £1130 for Altnagelvin

NWRC Staff Nicholas Mullan, Ann McGarrigle, Charmaine O'Donnell, Kim Boyle, Willie O'Donnell, Anne Craig and Willie Coyle handover a cheque for the amount of £1,130 to  Una Cardin from Altnagelvin Radiotherapy Unit. The money was raised at the Annual North West Regional College staff charity quiz earlier this year.

The Flying Clipper is back!

Fancy fine dining at work? The Flying Clipper is pleased to announce that its Fine Dining lunch & evening service has returned on Wednesday & Thursday in the stunning restaurant based on the ground floor of the Northland Building. 
Lunches will be served from today and continue every Wednesday and Thursday, from 12pm to 1.15pm. Evening Service will begin Thursday 2nd October, from 7.30pm.  Please call ext 6409 for bookings!!!
